Roles and permissions
Choose the right level of event access for creators, hosts, organizers, and guests.
Choose the right access level
Use Host for full event control, Organizer for invitations and planning management, or collaboration mode when guests only need to help with selected planning tools.
Open the person’s actions
Open the event’s People view, choose the person whose access needs to change, then open their actions.
Select an available role
Choose Change role, select the new role, and save. Hostly protects the event creator and only offers changes that your own role is allowed to make.
Verify the new label
Return to People and confirm the person appears with the intended role. If you are the creator switching between Creator and Host, your founder identity and permissions stay the same.

Before you continue
The creator can switch their own displayed role between Creator and Host. This does not transfer or remove creator identity.
Event settings can separately allow Going and Maybe guests to help manage sign-ups, checklists, or polls without changing their role.
Troubleshooting
If something does not look right
The creator cannot choose Organizer or Participant
That is intentional. The protected event creator can only use the Creator or Host display role.
An Organizer cannot edit details or change roles
Organizer is a planning and invitation role. Change the person to Host only if they should receive full event control.
A guest is asked to RSVP before collaborating
Collaboration access starts after a registered guest responds Going or Maybe.

Compare the roles
The Creator and Hosts have full event-management access. Organizers can invite people and manage planning tools, while Participants can view the event, RSVP, and claim sign-up items. Pending invitees can view enough event information to respond.
Protect the creator
The Creator is the person who founded the event. That identity stays attached to the event, so the creator cannot leave, be removed, or be changed into an Organizer or Participant.
Choose Host or Organizer
Use Host for someone who should be able to edit settings, manage roles, or delete the event. Use Organizer for a trusted helper who should invite people and manage planning without receiving full administrative control.
Change a person's role
Open the event's People view, choose a person, and open their actions. Hostly only offers role changes that your own access and the selected person's creator status allow.
Use collaboration for narrower access
Collaboration mode can let Going or Maybe guests help with selected planning tools without making them Organizers or Hosts. Sign-ups, checklists, and polls are controlled separately.
Common questions
Quick answers
Can I add a co-host?
Yes. Open the person in the event’s People view and change their role to Host when that action is available.
Can I transfer the Creator role?
Not currently. The creator remains attached to the event and cannot leave or be removed. Adding a Host gives that person full management access without transferring creator identity.
Do polls require Hostly Pro?
No. Poll creation depends on the person’s event role or the event’s collaboration settings, not a Pro entitlement.
